Use Group ID's to group together resources
How to Group Resources to Ensure Side-by-Side Bookings
If your venue has resources that should be booked side-by-side (like adjacent lanes, tables, or rooms), REX allows you to set grouping rules to ensure a better guest experience.
This article will walk you through the steps to group resources and set up side-by-side booking rules.
To group your resources:
Venues -> Specific Venue -> Resources -> Edit Resource -> Group ID
Grouping Resources
When creating or editing a resource, you can assign it a Group ID. This ID tells the system which resources should be prioritized together.
To assign a Group ID:
-
Navigate to the Resources section.
-
Find the resource you want to edit and click Edit on the right-hand side.
-
Enter a Group ID (example: Group 1, Group 2).
Example Scenario
If you have bowling lanes:
-
Lane 1 and Lane 2 are close together → Assign both to Group 1.
-
Lane 3 and Lane 4 are farther away → Assign both to Group 2.
The system will prioritize booking lanes within the same group before mixing groups. For example, if Lane 1 is already booked and a guest wants two lanes, the system will pair Lane 3 and Lane 4 instead of Lane 2 and Lane 3.
Setting Side-by-Side Rules in Packages
Once your resources are grouped, you must set the booking rules inside the individual package.
To set side-by-side booking rules: Venues -> Specific Venue -> Packages -> Select Package -> Resource Assignment
In the Resource Assignment section, you can choose how strictly the system enforces the groupings:
Resource Assignment Options:
-
Default:
No grouping priority. Resources are assigned based on availability. (Example: Lane 2 and Lane 3 could be assigned even if they are in different groups.) -
Side-by-Side Optional:
The system will prioritize keeping bookings within the same group but will allow cross-group bookings if necessary. -
Side-by-Side Only:
Bookings must be within the same group.
If only mismatched resources are available (like Lane 2 and Lane 3 from different groups), the system will not allow the booking.
Important Notes
-
Always assign your resources to groups first before setting side-by-side rules.
-
Side-by-Side Only is perfect for venues where separating bookings (like upstairs and downstairs lanes) would cause guest confusion or venue layout issues.
-
Side-by-Side Optional gives flexibility if you want to maintain priority without fully blocking bookings when needed.
By setting up resource groups and defining your package rules, you ensure that guests have a smoother, more enjoyable experience at your venue.
